■Sustainable Development Goals related to Formula SAE Japan

Through Formula SAE Japan, we support the improvement of students' technical and vocational skills, and promote the development of a sustainable automotive culture.

Team Support Initiatives at the Formula SAE Japan

Formula SAE Japan is a competition held in Japan where students attempt to manufacture a vehicle using their own designs and skills. The competition helps in fostering students' skills and contributes towards the development of the automotive industry.  It also supports students by providing them with industry, academia, government and private sector connections. The first convention was held in 2003, and in 2013, they began including competitions specifically for electric vehicles (EV). Due to this addition, the competition is even more relevant to building and manufacturing a future with more eco-friendly vehicles.
The competition requires a team of students to manufacture a formula-style racing car, with students coming from universities, technical colleges, and automobile colleges around the world. They compete to produce a car that is judged according to its cost, presentation and design. They also compete through 4 types of time attacks to judge fuel consumption, making for an extensive judging of each vehicle.
At the 16th Competition in 2018, from September 4th to 8th, 100 teams competed from around the world at Ogasayama Sports Park (ECOPA Stadium). With different parts of the competition taking place throughout Fukuroi and Kakegawa city in the Shizuoka Prefecture, the competition was as passionate and exciting as ever.

当社が行っている学生フォーミュラ支援

Our company has been supporting teams participating since 2014 by providing racing suits and shoes, as well as funding activities to support the cars made by these students. We have participated as a tournament sponsor since the 14th Annual Competition in 2016.
In 2018, we continued to support the tournament as a sponsoring company. Also, we supported 10 teams including Tohoku University, Ibaraki University, Chiba Institute of Technology, Nihon University, Seikei University, Yamanashi University, Fukui University, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Osaka University and Kyushu University. In addition, our company booth was open for two days during the competition period and was used to advertise the efforts of students at these institutions while promoting our own business simultaneously.

Building Relationships with Students

We invite the teams we support to SUPER GT, of which we are the title sponsor. As well as watching the races, we set up times for students to visit the pits and talk with mechanic engineers to help build relationships and connect students with motor sport activities.

In addition to funding, we also provided assistance that could only be provided by AUTOBACS. We gave teams racing gear and any other gears and tools they needed. We provided oil and other products for the cars, and provided technical support using our store facilities. We also tried to be able to support students in a way that was relatable and relevant to their needs.
